1. Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) taxonomy
Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Derbidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Boheman C. H. in 1838 in the following paper: Observationes in Derbe Genus, una cum, specierum quinque novarum descriptionibus. Handlingar. Kongliga Svenska Vetenskaps Akademien. Stockholm, 58: 223-230.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Derbidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Otiocerinae Muir, 1917, tribe Zoraidini Muir, 1913, subtribe Lyddina Emeljanov, 1995, genus Proutista Kirkaldy, 1904.
Proutista fritillaris is an extant taxon.
2. Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) are known from the Afrotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the African and Guineo-Congolian zoogeographic regions as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects; they mainly feed on host plants belonging to the order: Poales (Poaceae).
Figure 3a depicts the orders of plants on which Proutista fritillaris (Boheman, 1838) feeds, and figure 3b the percentage they represent in the diet for the entire species. Figures 4a and 4b do the same more precisely for the family level of these plants.
