1. Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) taxonomy

Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Delphacidae Leach, 1815 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Berg C. in 1879 in the following paper: Hemiptera. Argentina. (Continuacion.). Anales de la Sociedad Cientifica Argentina. Buenos Aires, 8: 178-192.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Delphacidae Leach, 1815, subfamily Asiracinae Motschulsky, 1863, tribe Idiosystatini Emeljanov, 1995, genus Pentagramma Van Duzee, 1897.

Pentagramma nimbata is an extant taxon.

2. Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) are known from the Neotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the South American zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) biological interactions

As all planthoppers, Pentagramma nimbata (Berg, 1879) are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
