This species was first described by Jiang Guo-Mei, Liang Ai-Ping and Xu Chang-Qing in 2006 in the following paper: The genus Euricania Melichar (Hemiptera: Ricaniidae). The Raffles Bulletin of Zoology, 54(1) : 1-10.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Ricaniidae Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843, subfamily Ricaniinae Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843, genus Euricania Melichar, 1898.
Euricania brevicula is an extant taxon.
