1. Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 taxonomy
Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Delphacidae Leach, 1815 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Hamilton K. G. A. in 2002 in the following paper: Homoptera (Insecta) in Pacific Northwest grasslands. Part 1 - New and revised taxa of leafboppers and planthoppers (Cicadellidae and Delphacidae). Journal of the Entomological Society of British Columbia, 99: 3-31.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Delphacidae Leach, 1815, subfamily Delphacinae Leach, 1815, tribe Delphacini Leach, 1815, genus Elachodelphax Vilbaste, 1965, subgenus Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) Wilson, 1992.
Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama is an extant taxon.
2. Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 are known from the Nearctic biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the North American zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Elachodelphax (Aschedelphax) mazama Hamilton, 2002 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
