This species was first described by Dlabola J. in 1980 in the following paper: Neue Zikadenarten der Gattungen Siculus gen. n., Mycterodus und Adarrus aus Sudeuropa und 6 neue Mycterodus aus Iran (Homoptera, Auchenorrhyncha). Acta Faunistica Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae, 16(184) : 55-71.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Issidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Hysteropterinae Melichar, 1906, genus Mycterodus Spinola, 1839, subgenus Mycterodus (Mycterodus) Spinola, 1839.
