1. Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) taxonomy
Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Delphacidae Leach, 1815 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Crawford D. L. in 1914 in the following paper: A contribution toward a monograph of the Homopterous insects of the family Delphacidae of North and South America. Proceedings of the United States National Museum. Washington, 46: 557-640.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Delphacidae Leach, 1815, subfamily Delphacinae Leach, 1815, tribe Delphacini Leach, 1815, genus Pygospina Caldwell, 1951.
Pygospina aurantii is an extant taxon.
2. Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) are known from the Neotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Panamanian zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Pygospina aurantii (Crawford, 1914) are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
