Haplaxius simplicatus Caldwell, 1946 is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Caldwell J. S. in 1946 in the following paper: Notes on Haplaxius Fowler with descriptions of new species (Homoptera, Cixiidae). Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, 48: 203-206.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Cixiinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Oecleini Muir, 1922, genus Haplaxius Fowler, 1904.

Haplaxius simplicatus is an extant taxon.

2. Haplaxius simplicatus Caldwell, 1946 geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Haplaxius simplicatus Caldwell, 1946 are known from the Neotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Panamanian zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Haplaxius simplicatus Caldwell, 1946 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Haplaxius simplicatus Caldwell, 1946 biological interactions
