1. Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 taxonomy

Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 is currently considered as a valid taxon of genus rank in the family Dictyopharidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This genus was first described by Emeljanov A. F. in 2015 in the following paper: A New Genus of Dictyopharidae (Homoptera) from Chile [in Russian]. Entomologicheskoe Obozrenie, 94(1) : 138-142.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Dictyopharidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Dictyopharinae Spinola, 1839, . Dictyopharinae incertae sedis .

Chondrophana is monospecific. The type species of the genus is Chondrophana gayi (Spinola, 1852).

Chondrophana is an extant taxon.

2. Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 are known from the Neotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the South American zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 biological interactions

As all planthoppers, Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects; they mainly feed on host plants belonging to the following orders: Asterales (Asteraceae), Caryophyllales (), Fabales (Quillajaceae), Laurales (Lauraceae), Sapindales (Anacardiaceae) and Vitales (Vitaceae).
Figure 3a depicts the orders of plants on which Chondrophana Emeljanov, 2015 feeds, and figure 3b the percentage they represent in the diet for the entire genus. Figures 4a and 4b do the same more precisely for the family level of these plants.
