1. Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 taxonomy

Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 is currently considered as a valid taxon of Fulgoromorpha of tribe rank, classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Fulgoridae Latreille, 1807, subfamily Strongylodematinae Fennah, 1962. It was first described by Stål C. in 1962 in the following paper: New Orgeriine Dictyopharidae from South Africa (Homoptera). Annals of the Natal Museum, 15: 219-245.

Strongylodematini is currently only known through its extant representatives. It includes 4 genera (about 0.17% of all known extant Fulgoromorpha genera) and 9 species (about 0.07% of all known extant Fulgoromorpha species).

From a taxonomic perspective, the tribe Strongylodematini is currently subdivided into 4 genera, as summarized in Table 1.

2. Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 are known from the Afrotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the African zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 biological interactions

As all planthoppers, Strongylodematini Stål, 1853 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
