This species was first described by Dlabola J. in 1984 in the following paper: Typenrevision einiger mediterraner bzw. nordafrikanischer Hysteropterum (s.l.). (Auchenorrhyncha - Issidae). Acta Faunistica Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae, 17(195) : 27-67.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Issidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Hysteropterinae Melichar, 1906, genus Bubastia Emeljanov, 1975.
