1. Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) taxonomy

Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Hesse A. J. in 1925 in the following paper: Contributions to a knowledge of the fauna of South-West Africa. IV.. Annals of the South African Museum. Cape Town, 23: 1-190.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Cixiinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Pentastirini Emeljanov, 1971, subtribe Pentastirina Emeljanov, 1971, genus Pentastiridius Kirschbaum, 1868.

Pentastiridius limbifer is an extant taxon.

2. Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) are known from the Afrotropical biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the African and Guineo-Congolian zoogeographic regions as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.

3. Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) biological interactions

As all planthoppers, Pentastiridius limbifer (Hesse, 1925) are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
