This species was first described by Synave H. in 1960 in the following paper: Cixiidae (Homoptera-Fulgoroidea). Exploration du Parc National Garamba. Mission H. de Saeger (1949-1952), 18: 7-44.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Cixiidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Cixiinae Spinola, 1839, tribe Pentastirini Emeljanov, 1971, subtribe Pentastirina Emeljanov, 1971, genus Oliarus Stål, 1862.
