1. Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 taxonomy
Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Flatidae Spinola, 1839 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Guérin-Méneville F. E. and Melichar L. in 1856 in the following paper: Segunda, Seccion. Homopterous. in Crustaceos, aragnides, e insectos. 178-182.
It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Fulgoroidea Latreille, 1807, family Flatidae Spinola, 1839, subfamily Flatoidinae Melichar, 1901, genus Flatoides Guérin-Méneville, 1844.
Flatoides tortrix is an extant taxon.
2. Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 geographical distribution and bioregions
According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 are known from the Afrotropical and Neotropical biogeographical regions as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Panamanian zoogeographic region as defined by Holt (2013). Figures 1 and 2 display dynamic graphs showcasing the longitudinal and latitudinal profiles of Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 arround the across the globe according to their species richness. A scroll on the histogram bars displays the species richness of the corresponding regions.
3. Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 biological interactions
As all planthoppers, Flatoides tortrix Melichar & Guérin-Méneville, 1844 are obligatory phytophagous terrestrial insects.
