1. Chloriona smaragdula (Stål, 1853) taxonomy

Chloriona smaragdula (Stål, 1853) is currently considered as a valid taxon of species rank in the family Delphacidae Leach, 1815 of the Fulgoromorpha. This species was first described by Stål C. in 1853 in the following paper: Nya Svenska Homoptera. Ofversigt af Kongliga Svenska Vetenskaps-Akademiens Förhandlingar. Stockholm, 10: 174-177.

It is currently classified in order Hemiptera Linné, 1758, suborder Fulgoromorpha Evans, 1946, superfamily Delphacoidea Leach, 1815, family Delphacidae Leach, 1815, subfamily Delphacinae Leach, 1815, tribe Delphacini Leach, 1815, genus Chloriona Fieber, 1866.

Chloriona smaragdula is an extant taxon.

2. Chloriona smaragdula (Stål, 1853) geographical distribution and bioregions

According to the geographical TDWG standard (2001), Chloriona smaragdula (Stål, 1853) are known from the Palaearctic biogeographical region as defined by Wallace (1876). More precisely, they are distributed in the Eurasian and Saharo-Arabian zoogeographic regions as defined by Holt (2013).
